Evaluation of thermal-hydraulics of MONJU reactor upper plenum

Honda, Kei

no journal, ,

The Japanese prototype sodium coolant FBR has some components which have various structures. Thermal-hydraulics of those components are complicated due to the structures. One of the components is the reactor upper plenum. A thermocouple plug is installed. The calculated temperature distribution can be validated by using the measured temperature on the thermocouple plug. In this study, we developed a three dimensional analysis model and we set temperature and flow rate to each of the subassembly as inlet boundary conditions. The obtained result agreed with the measured data well.

Study on developing pipework repairing system using laser beam and remote evaluation method of the repairing quality

Furusawa, Akinori

no journal, ,

In this work, it is reported that pipe work repairing system and evaluation method of the repairing quality. The repairing system, which is composed of the insertion laser-torch, rotating mechanism, hybrid optical fiber and CW laser source, enable us to repair and reprocess inner surface of the pipework. Operators are able to manipulate the system while monitoring the laser irradiation point through the hybrid optical fiber. On the other hand, the repairing quality is confirmed by visual images, it is natural of developing remote evaluation method for the repairing quality to enhance the value of the repairing system. One of the most promising techniques for remote repairing quality evaluation is ultrasonic guided wave. In this work, we focus on the evaluating butt-welding quality with guided wave, investigating its applicability experimentally. Guided wave is generated and measured on butt-welded pipes that are butt-welded in different conditions. Through the experiments and investigation of the wave profiles, it is found that welding condition effects on the strength of the guided wave detecting signal, revealing its applicability and obtaining some knowledge to establish remote repairing quality evaluation method.

Thermophysical properties of sodium-concrete reaction products in severe accident of sodium-cooled fast reactor

Kawaguchi, Munemichi

no journal, ,

During the melt-through sequence of core-disruptive accidents in sodium-cooled fast reactors, sodium coolant with molten core debris can be released onto the reactor vessel room, leading to reaction of the base-mat concrete. The steel liner was usually set on the base-mat, but the decay heat of the molten core debris may damage the steel liner. In the assumption, the reaction products caused by the sodium-concrete reaction (SCR) would cover the core debris, and prevent from the heat dissipation of the core debris. In this study, the thermal properties of the SCR products such as the melting point and thermal conductivity which are important to the consequence were investigated.
